One of the aspects which separates the Bay Area from other metropolitan areas is that it does not have just one downtown. San Franciscans would like you to believe that they are the center of all that is in the Bay Area. They certainly are the cultural and financial center. People from San Jose point out that more people live in San Jose than any other city in the Bay Area. Silicon Valley has the highest computer companies anywhere.
Oakland has its claims to fame, too. The Oakland Museum, Lake Merritt, and the Coliseum are all things to be proud of. Furthermore, unlike San Francisco, it has a busy port.

The Transbay Terminal was orginally build for Key System Trains for the East Bay. When the trains stopped running, buses took over. AC Transit is the direct successor to the Key System.
