Colma Line:
The Colma line connects the East Bay with San Francisco and northern San Mateo County, via the Transbay Tube,an underwater tunnel 140 ft below sea level. The Transbay Tube feeds directly into the lower level of the four track Market St. Subway. BART uses the lower level, while MUNI uses the upper level. San Francisco Shopping Centre, the San Francisco Municipal Railway, cable cars, and Union Square shopping district are all nearby. BART then heads to Colma via the Mission St. Subway.
Richmond Line:
The Richmond Line serves the East Bay communities north of Oakland as far north as Richmond in Contra Costa County. Highlights include the subway through Berkeley. While not the largest city in the Bay Area, this politically active town put paid to have BART be underground in their community.
Pittsburg / Bay Point Line:
The Bay Area Rapid Transit's longest line is also the most picturesque. Originally ending at Concord, this line has been extended via Willow Pass to the western end of Pittsburg. The Berkeley Hills Tunnel is a shortcut between Rockridge and Orinda. In Walnut Creek, a graceful bridge flies over a freeway and straight into a station amongst high rises.
Dublin / Pleasanton Line:
This line is a branch off of the Fremont Line at Bay Fair. It travels in the middle of I - 580 Freeway. It is about 13 miles between Castro Valley and the end of the line. Dublin / Pleasanton line was the first new line since the original system opened in the early '70s
Fremont Line:
Long line adjacent to freight railroad tracks. Coliseum Station includes a walkway to the Oakland Coliseum, a stadium far better that Candlestick Park. Oakland Museum, Lake Merritt, BART headquarters are short walks from Lake Merritt Station.
