MTDB Contract Services also contracts with San Diego Transit to operate Routes 8, 21, 22, 23, 29, and 31. Route 8 is a new route began in 1996 using MTS New Flyer CNG buses. Route 21 is a new route (1995) using existing SDT buses, primarily low floor CNG New Flyers. Route 22 and 23 are new routes in 1996 using MTS 40 ft CNG New Flyers. Route 29 is part of the old SDT Route 29 operating between Downtown SD and Iris Avenue Trolley Station. Route 29 now uses 10 1995 New Flyer 40 ft CNG buses. These routes all have SDTC route numbers between 1 and 210 so as not to confuse the public. They collectively carry about 10,000 riders per weekday.
