Agency Library

All pages and links can be searched by sub string. For example if you want to search for agencies with "agency" somewhere in their name, just type in "agencytransit" in the search for box. Vehicle types are logically "AND"ed. For example, if you check bus and light rail, you will only get agencies or links for agencies that operate both.

Photo Library

Only about 50% of all photographs taken actually make it onto the site. The rest are of either poor quality, too much like another photo, or are not about transit. In some cases, photos did not make it into the agency's pages, did make it into the vehicles and manufacturers section.

PictureCD

The newest technology is PictureCD. They start as high quality JPG at about 1.5k pixels by 1k pixels. All photos were taken with the incredible Canon Sure Shot 105 zoom. It was specifically purchased for the photo hunting trip to Bay Area in January '98. It has features like auto focus and zoom. It can keep the shutter open for long periods of time. This allows photos to be taken in subway stations.

PhotoCD

These have incredibly high resolution, about 4.5k pixel by 3k pixel. These were also the most expensive and have been replaced with PictureCD. Most photos were take with the forementioned Canon. Some were taken with disposable cameras

Scans

Some older photos are scans from prints. These are of noticeably lower quality and are being phased out. The oldest set of photos were taken from 1986 to 1988 using a Kodak disc camera. Disc film was an example of marketing attempting to triumph over results. The negative itself was only about 8mm and anything beyond a 4" print was very grainy.

Later a Kodak K80 35mm camera was used. 35mm film is a far better medium for photographs. From 1988 to about 1991, the K80 auto focus camera was the camera in use. This author never mastered getting auto focus to function properly, so may photos where not has high of quality they could have been.
